Employment Prospects Good For Canada Immigrants Aged 25 to 54

Young and middle-aged immigrants who came to Canada within the last five years are now more likely to have landed a job than before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, figures from Statistics Canada reveal.

In its latest Labour Force Survey, released on Jan. 7, Statistics Canada noted there was now a higher proportion of recent immigrants aged 25 to 54 employed in Canada in December last year than before the pandemic.

Working while in Canada

Since 2014, newly arrived full-time international students with valid study permits have been allowed to work in Canada without a work permit. They can work on-campus for an unlimited number of hours and, if their program lasts at least six months, they can work off-campus up to 20 hours per week while school is in progress, and full-time during study breaks. Saskatchewan welcomed 269 potential immigrants to register for a provincial appointment for permanent residency. The drawing was held on April 22nd. Candidates are eligible for candidacy under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program's International Skilled Worker division (SINP). The International Skilled Worker Group is split into two subcategories: Express Entry and Occupations in High Demand.
